- This article is written by a journalist on a journey of discovery - and on a mission to learn about wine. image: http://keyassets.timeincuk.net/inspirewp/live/wp-content/uploads/sites/34/2015/07/Noble-rot-630x420.jpg Noble rot By  Yiyao Wu from Shanghai – the Chinese perspective Use the where to study map on the WSET website to see which courses are  available near you . The ripening process had been so protracted that bunches were unevenly ripe, and the rain just before harvest increased the danger of rot. It was a season when diligent – and costly – work in the vineyards, and rigorous sorting when the grapes arrived in the winery, was essential. "It was a very expensive harvest," Florence Cathiard at Smith Haut Lafitte said. "We had to select almost as if it was Sauternes." Related stories: 10 Years...
